Going through locks, highlight of your cruise

Passage des écluses
You will meet other amateur sailors and feel the local atmosphere, buy terroir products. Locks are free, but close for dome bank holidays such as the 1st of May, the 14th of July and the 1st of November.

You will meet two types of locks: manual, that is operated by a lock keeper or the skipper, and automatic with a swipe card. When they are manoeuvred by a lock keeper, they open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with an hour break at lunchtime. Therefore it is very important to check the locks timetable!

On the Lot and the Baïse rivers, you will have to manoeuvre the locks yourself, so you will not have to worry about closing time and holidays. Operating locks is easy but requires at least two agile persons.

Automatic locks are regulated by traffic lights. It is the case between Bordeaux and Castets-en-Dorthe on the Garonne Canal.
